“So! Mirai… you know the drill. It’s just us and the universe,” the Doctor flashes his usual toothy grin. “Where do you want to go?”
Mirai smiles back. “Surprise me this time. I trust you.”
“Right! A surprise it shall be!”
The Doctor flips some switches and presses some buttons, a smile reappears on her face as her and Sasaki’s eyes meet. The Doctor looks back at the console to make sure the coordinates they entered are correct and suddenly their smile drops.
Sasaki notices. “Doctor? What’s wrong? Did we get a distress signal?”
The Doctor ignores the question. He complains. “No… Not now… Why is he here now?”
Sasaki and the Doctor had planned to have a day alone. Just them on any wacky and fun— and frankly, dangerous— mission on some planet the TARDIS would bring them to.
What they did not plan was for an old friend of the Doctor’s to stumble upon the TARDIS in his own ship.
“Is it an old friend of yours?”
“You could say that.”
The Doctor sulks her way over to the TARDIS doors, Sasaki following behind. She opens them, and Sasaki sees a spaceship with a man inside.
“Care if I come aboard, Doctor?” The man asks through a microphone on his ship.
“You will anyway if I say no!” The Doctor yells back.
The man laughs, driving his ship closer and turning so the doors of their respective ships line up. He soon enters the TARDIS.
“Doctor! Long time no see.”
“Hello, Jack.”
Sasaki, standing near the railing, soon becomes visible to Jack. Sasaki nods his head.
“Hello. Nice to meet you.”
Jack takes no time at all before looking Sasaki up and down, glancing back and forth between the Doctor and him. He looks surprised.
“My! Doctor, I didn’t know you had a companion that is so… Large!”
The Doctor rolls their eyes. Sasaki furrows his brow. “I beg your pardon?”
Jack pulls Sasaki away from the railing so he could fully walk around him. “I mean, you’ve had such petite, feminine companions. But you…you’re tall, you’re strong, and older—oh my… And look at your hands! They’re massive! My imagination is going to have a field day after this—“
Sasaki widens his eyes. The Doctor firmly places a hand on Sasaki’s back, guiding him away from Jack. “Alright, that’s enough. You wanted to find me for a reason, not to ogle at my companion.”
Sasaki has not heard this tone of voice with the Doctor before. He sounds annoyed. Sasaki didn’t ignore the Doctor’s slight emphasis on the word ‘my,’ either.
Jack ignores the previous comment. “So, mister tall man…do you have a name I may call you?”
Sasaki glances at the Doctor, whose jaw tightened. This is uncharacteristic, he mentally notes.
“Sasaki. You may call me Sasaki.”
Jack grabs his hand and presses a kiss to the back of his hand, causing Sasaki to raise his eyebrow. “Sasaki… What a gorgeous name.”
“Thank you.”
Before Jack could ask him any more questions, Sasaki’s phone rings. He pulls it out of his pocket to see the contact.
“Oh, excuse me. I need to take this.” Sasaki looks at the Doctor, face slightly more relaxed now that Sasaki is leaving the room for a short period of time.
The hero mouths the name, “M-I-R-I-O.” And the Doctor gives a gentle smile before shoo-ing Sasaki off.
Jack and the Doctor begin talking again, but their conversation is brief. The Doctor sees that Jack has his focus on Sasaki once more and rolls his eyes. They seem to make out what Sasaki says on the phone.
“Mirio? Is everything alright?”
…
“What? At UA?”
…
“Do you need me to come get you?”
…
(They both hear Sasaki sigh in relief.)
“So you’re alright?”
…
“Do you need us to grab you afterwards?”
…
“Alright.. Stay safe. Call if you need anything.”
…
“Love you too, kiddo.”
And he re-enters the room.
Jack notices how Sasaki walks over to the Doctor and whispers. The Doctor’s face fills with worry, which is swiftly replaced with relief and a gentle smile.
(“There was a villain attack near UA, so they evacuated the students. They told them they’re not allowed to get involved, to let the heroes deal with it. He’s staying at Amajiki’s house currently. Is it alright if we pick him up afterwards?” To which the Doctor responds, “Of course.”)
Jack, however, gets straight to the point.
“Forgive me for eavesdropping, Sasaki, but I noticed you said kiddo?”
Sasaki nods, the Doctor swiftly resuming his annoyance. His nose scrunches.
“Yes, you’d be correct. My kid called me.”
Jack raises his eyebrows and smirks. “Your kid? So you’re a father?”
The Doctor cuts in. “Mirio is Mi- Sasaki’s protégé, but they’re practically father and son.”
The flirtatious traveler winks at the Doctor. “So you scored a dilf? That’s new.”
Sasaki’s face flushes. The Doctor scoffs. “Oi. Just tell me why you’re here.”
“I was just passing by when I saw a familiar blue box! Am I not allowed to say hi to an old friend?”
The Doctor grumbles. “You never just say hi, Jack. If all you’re going to do is flirt with Sasaki then I ask that you leave.”
Jack laughs. Green is a fabulous color on the Doctor, he thinks. It’s also a gorgeous color on his companion. “Sasaki, you also said the word villain? So that means there are heroes? Are you a hero?”
The question is innocent, so Sasaki answers honestly. “Yes. I’m a pro-hero in Japan. I run my own hero agency. I’ve been training Mirio there for a few years now.”
“A pro-hero! So that means you have your very own hero name?”
“Correct.”
Jack’s grin is big. “Let me guess… so it’s a hero name… like Superman… Greenman? Businessman? Agh, I don’t know, but can I call you my man?”
Sasaki’s face drops. He’s becoming increasingly sick of this. “Not even close.”
“Damn… Can you tell me what it is?”
“Sir Nighteye. It’s based off of my quirk—“
“Oh man… Sir Nighteye…” Jack practically swoons. “Can I call you Sir? Or is that only allowed in the bedroom?”
Sasaki chokes on nothing and rubs his face with his hand. He hopes it comes across as frustration, but his cheeks are flushed.
“That’s enough, Jack.” The Doctor interrupts. “Leave him alone.”
Sasaki does not ignore the slight growl in the Doctor’s voice. His blush increases.
Jack chuckles again, raising his hands in defeat. “Alright, alright. I’ve had my fun. Just wanted to pop in and say hi, but it seems I am not welcome this time. I better get back on my ship anyway, I don't want to run out of fuel and be stuck in the middle of nowhere.” He makes his way over to the doors. “Catch you both later.”
And before he exits, he winks.
The Doctor snaps his fingers and the TARDIS doors close. His face relaxes a bit, but she’s still tense.
“Mirai, I’m so sor-“
Sasaki cuts the Doctor off short and pulls him into a kiss. The Doctor relaxes, one of Sasaki’s hands cupping his face while the other brings her hips closer. She wraps her arms around his neck, and they stay like this for a minute or so, only pulling away briefly to get some air.
During this break, Sasaki chuckles as the Doctor chases after his lips. “That friend of yours does not waste any time, does he?”
The Doctor sighs. “Everytime. He can’t seem to keep it in his pants.”
Sasaki kisses their nose. “You acted differently. It was new. I liked it.”
The Doctor raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Well I just don’t like Jack trying to woo my partner.”
Sasaki’s lips make their way to the Doctor’s jaw. She sighs again. “I’m really sorry about him. I didn’t think you’d ever meet him, at least so soon.”
Sasaki presses a kiss to his cheek. “You seem to miss the part where I said I liked seeing you so jealous. Did you hear yourself? You growled, Doc.”
“Did I? That was an accident.”
Sasaki laughs. “You did.” He leans in to kiss the Doctor again, and she happily obliges.
They pull away after a short period of time. Sasaki pulls out his phone to check if Mirio had sent any more messages. The only one was a photo of him and Tamaki, safe at his house. Sasaki reacts to the photo with a “❤️” and responds with a smiley face.
The Doctor laughs. “Old man.”
“Look who’s talking.”
(The Doctor steals Sasaki’s phone and sends a picture back of him kissing Sasaki’s cheek.
Mirio responds, “Gay people??? On the TARDIS??”)
Sasaki steals his phone back and clicks on Mirio’s contact photo. He scrolls down to the video call button, and Mirio answers very fast.
“Hi dad!!”
“Hey kiddo.”
“I’m all safe and sound with Tamaki!!”
“That’s good to hear.” Sasaki smiles. “Hey, uhm.. our adventure got…” He glances at the Doctor. “…cut short, so we’re on our way home. Do you need us to come get you?”
“It’s up to you dad! Tamaki’s parents said l'm free to sleep over if I want-slash-need to.”
“Well, do you want to?”
“Can I?”
“Of course.” He laughs. “You’re 18, Mirio. You don’t need a parent's permission anymore. Plus I trust Amajiki.”
Mirio laughs. “Well, I didn’t know if you guys missed me that badly that you wanted me home!!”
The Doctor smiles. “Oh, we always miss you Mirio! But if you want to stay at your friend’s house then we’ll be at Mirai’s if you need us.”
“Alright!! Thank you dads!! Bye!!”
-beep-
“Did you invite yourself over to my house?”
The Doctor laughs. “And what if I did?”
Sasaki leans in close, lowering his voice. The Doctor blushes.
“Then you have to make breakfast in the morning.”
The Doctor feigns offense. “Oi! I’m your guest! And I burnt the breakfast last time!”
Sasaki presses a small kiss to their lips.
“Well then maybe don’t use the sonic to cook next time.”
